Day of Immunology 2012

For the 8th time, EFIS invites all immunologists to think about fresh and innovative PR activities in combination with the annual Day of Immunology (DoI). The purpose of our endeavour is to raise awareness amongst the public, the press, politicians and decision makers about the critical importance of the immune system in everybody’s everyday life.

This year, EFIS offers attractive awards for the best initiatives. Winners and their concepts will be introduced on the occasion of the 3rd European Congress of Immunology (ECI 2012) in Glasgow. EFIS outreach 2012: Building tools for everyone

The book “Your Amazing Immune System – How It Protects Your Body” has been translated and published as pdf or hard copy in 8 different languages since the publication of the English version by EFIS and will be available in 9 further languages soon.

Due to the great success, an interactive web adaptation of the book, including quizzes and more in-depth information, will be published for the Day of Immunology in 2012 (April 29th)!

  • Get inside your Immune system through amazing pictures and videos!

    Get inside your Immune system The large public has too few occasions to see life at a cellular level. With this first web-exhibition on Immunology mixing fabulous pictures and videos selected from two institutions – the Pasteur Institute and the INSERM, the EFIS opens up the field to the largest audience, on free access.

    To explain what is the immune system made of and how it combats pathogens, the exhibition tells us the story of a never-ending fight between the good ones, our white cells, and the bad ones, the viruses, bacteria, parasites and so on. If the immune system doesn’t win each time, hopefully there are immunologists to help!

  • EFIS Bookcover (japanese), Your amazing Immune System “Your amazing Immune System - How it protects your body”: an appealing book on Immunology. In 2009, we translated and distributed this book targeting children and lay people from Japanese to English. To pursue this direction for 2011, the EFIS board decided to support further translations as our first outreach. The electronic version is still available at: www.immunology-info.org.

  • “The Immunology Knight”, a shortcut. You are most welcome to download and spread the movie, and use it freely to promote immunology. The clip is available in English and subtitled in the different languages of EFIS member societies. It was produced as a teaser, to interest laypeople and especially adolescents in immunology.
